Grace Period

Business Opportunities

In an airplain experiencing engine failure, the flight attendants were preparing all passengers for an emergency landing. A few minutes later, the pilot asks the Purser: “How are the passengers?”, and she answers: “Everyone is sitting in their places, wearing their seatbelts, except for one lawyer who is still walking around, handing out business cards”.

Every situation holds a business opportunity !

Crisis

The Chinese word for ‘Crisis’ is composed of two characters: the first signifying “danger”, and the second “opportunity”.

When we face a crisis, we choose what interpretation to give it.

The Mousetrap

Scott A. Clark said: “Aspiring entrepreneurs believe the secret to success to be developing a new innovative, exciting product. After all, they remember well Emerson who said: Build a better mousetrap and the world will beat a path to your door. My job is to tell you here and now that if you believe this saying, you’re bound to fail. Truth is, it’s better to aggressively market an average mousetrap, than build an outstanding one and wait for people to call.”

Tuvalu

Tuvalu, one of the world’s smallest countries, has the world’s smallest population after that of the Vatican. Because of that, it has a very low GDP. When Tuvalu wanted to join the United Nations, it discovered it would cost 100,000$, which it didn’t really have. Tuvalu then decided to offer for sale its attractive top-level domain – .tv – to commercial companies and individuals, assuming it would be a popular domain name with the television business. Tuvalu was right – a Canadian businessman bought it for 50,000,000$ and started a company named DotTV.

Luck is one thing – but knowing how to use it creatively is another!

Chrysler Building

Car manufacturer Walter Chrysler, who founded the construction of the 319 meter tall Chrysler Building in New York, meant for it to remain the tallest building in the world for a long while. When only one year after its launch, the construction of the 381 meter tall Empire State Building was done, the disappointed Chrysler refused to pay architect William Van Allen, who planned the building.
